May 26, 2004 – The state of Montana receives nearly a half-million dollars from Neurontin manufacturer Parke-Davis as part of a settlement between the drug company and the National Association of Medical Fraud Control Units. The agreement resolves allegations of a massive “off-label” marketing campaign for the epilepsy drug.

May 13, 2004 – Pfizer Inc. agrees to pay $430 million to settle civil charges that it paid doctors kickbacks for prescribing and promoting Neurontin for non-FDA approved medical conditions. The lawsuit was originally filed by a former Parke-Davis employee, who alleged that the Pfizer subsidiary lavished doctors with dinners and trips to the Olympics and resorts in an effort to market Neurontin as a treatment for other ailments such as migraines and sought reimbursement from Medicaid.
 
April 28, 2004 – Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. and Alpharma Inc. agree to share revenue from copycat versions of Neurontin. However, Pfizer anticipates retaining its monopoly on its popular drug, which has annual sales of more than $2 billion.

July 11, 2003 – A year-long “Dateline” investigation reveals the deceptive marketing practices of Warner-Lambert regarding Neurontin. Scientist David Franklin said he was “trained to deceive, to lie to doctors” about the epilepsy drug.
